About us

So that you can appreciate our excellent reputation

Adaptation

Far too often, people arrive in our shop with body piercings in a critical state because they inserted, themselves, a piece of “fantasy” jewellery not only of a bad quality but also badly adapted. The jewellery that we offer is always of the highest quality and we adapt it, at no extra charge, to suit your morphology. This is very important because, in the context of the jewellery used in body piercing, the morphology of each person is different. There are certain rules of length, width and depth that have to be respected. Also, our jewellers are able to supply made-to-measure jewellery specially created for you.

Hygiene

We do all that is necessary to insure an irreproachable level of hygiene and therefore to optimise the success of your body piercing. All the material and equipment used for piercing, as well as the jewellery inserted, are of first quality and sterilised by the best methods used in medicine today. We only work with single-use needles and dermal punches that come in individual, sterile wrappings. The jewellery used for insertion is always made of the high-quality materials also used in surgery, that is to say medical alloys such as titanium and steel (e.g. surgical steel 316 LVM 1.4441). These bio-compatible materials are therefore perfectly adapted for use in body piercing and consequently only carry an infinitesimal risk of allergy or rejection.

Transparency

Everyone who comes to Red Light District for body piercing is given a form “Confidential File – Agreement and consent formalities” (The for mis available under: FAQ). The questions and statements contained in this document inform us on the current state of your health and your fitness for body piercing. This measure is principally intended for the safety and security of the customer and his piercer. The minimum age requirement for all types of body piercing is 18 years. Under that age, piercing can be carried out in the presence of parents. Otherwise an identity paper and a parental agreement, duly signed by one of the parents or a legal guardian, are required. Our “Parental authorisation” form can be downloaded from this site (See: FAQ) or obtained from our shop. Hand-written authorisations, duly signed, are also accepted.

Quality

It is perfectly natural to compare prices in order to pay less, but be careful! What is of the first importance is the high level of the service, the perfect mastery of the body piercing technique, the quality of the jewellery used and its adaptation to your personal morphology, the conditions of hygiene and, last but not least, the follow-up. Body piercing is not a trivial act and the risk of infection or rejection is always possible. That is why it is important to take no chances but to choose a respected piercer of long-standing experience. Red Light District has these qualities!

WE ONLY OFFER A FEW THINGS, BUT THOSE WE DO VERY, VERY WELL.

Advice

There are several types of body-piercing by which many areas of the body can be pierced. It should be understood that the skin and mucous membranes are barriers protecting the body from germs and foreign bodies. Body-piercing is an operation that deliberately breaks this barrier in order to introduce a foreign body. Following this "break", one can to observe more or less abundant bleeding, bruising, inflammatory symptoms (redness, swelling, sensitivity ...), but above all there is a risk of infection. Indeed, if you do not follow some essential rules, you run the risk of introducing bacteria or other germs that can slow healing, irritate the skin and even cause an infection! You are fully responsible for hygiene and care of the piercing(s) (even more so for intimate piercings)! We therefore urge you to follow the advice given by the piercer and the instructions given in the sheet "Care and Counsels" provided during your visit or available on the website (see: FAQ).

Follow-up

NEVER LISTEN TO OTHERS! We are all different, and each individual can react differently to a body-piercing. We ask you, therefore, to return regularly to see the piercer (free consultations) in order that he follow the evolution of the healing (if possible, once a week during the first month). In case of doubt, contact us immediately. That is what we are here for, and are entirely at your disposal! (See: Contact).

Technique

The body piercing technique using a needle or a dermal punch is in no way comparable with that using a gun. The gun doesn’t pierce – it tears the skin. It cannot be taken apart and cannot therefore be completely cleaned or sterilised. The holes made by a gun are rarely straight, remain painful for a long time and are slow to heal. To this day, there are no regulations concerning body piercing in Switzerland and each piercer will propose a method based on his own experience. Red Light District, being the pioneer of body piercing in Geneva, has 20 years of practical experience in the field. Not only because of our excellent knowledge and mastery of the body piercing technique, acquired and perfected over the years, but also because the system we use is particularly rapid and effective, the piercing that we carry out is practically painless.

Navel piercing is generally carried out on the upper rim of the navel which acts as a support for the jewel which passes through it vertically. This is one of the most common piercings among young people and, in particular, girls. There are various derivatives and variations of navel piercing, one of which goes through the lower rim instead of the upper.Others consist of several jewels around the navel forming a triangle, for instance, or a kind of cross.

    MDII

Madonna/Monroe/Mole: The Madonna piercing is situated just above the upper lip, on one side. Le Madonna piercing is also named Monroe or Mole. MDII (MD2): Red Light District – the first Piercing Shop of Geneva – has invented an exclusive piercing method: the MDII, small and discrete, like a sequin sitting on the skin. There is a large demand for piercings with no visible “exit hole”. The MDII (pronounced MD2) is the answer, a gentle alternative to the Microdermal implant, a practice not available at Red Light District. What are the characteristics of the MDII? The MDII is not a Microdermal implant. No biopsy clip is used. The insertion of the MDII is carried out with the use of a very fine needle of 1mm in diameter. The piece of jewellery inserted is made of 18 carat gold (you can choose between yellow or white gold). The after-care required is very much reduced and there is practically no risk of rejection. The MDII can be placed almost anywhere on the body and its removal can be executed by the piercer painlessly, with no bleeding and without leaving any mark.

    Piercing

Septum: The septum is the name given to the cartilaginous tissue that separates the nostrils. In spite of what one may think, it is not the cartilage that is pierced, but just the soft skin at the base. Medusa/Philtrum: A piercing centred above the upper lip is generally known as a “Medusa”. The correct anatomical term, as used by professionals in the Anglo-saxon countries, is Philtrum. The general idea that people have about this piercing is that it causes loosening of the teeth and/or retraction of the gums. True and false. A badly-placed piercing, or one with a jewel that is too long will, in the end, cause these results. Come to see the piercer, and he will shorten the jewel for you. If the piercing is well carried out, and with a well-adapted jewel, these after-effects are not to be feared.
